Homosexuality - sexual attraction to someone of the same sex.
Homosexuality is represented in Modern Family by Cameron and Mitchell. They are a gay couple that has established a long term relationship. They live together, have an adopted daughter, and show affection towards each other. They are very much attracted to one another in a sexual way.
Heterosexuality - sexual attraction to someone of the other sex.
Heterosexuality is also demonstrated in Modern Family with all the other characters that make up the show. Claire and Phil are a couple. Jay and Gloria are a couple, and Haley has a boyfriend. They are all attracted to the opposite sex. The rest of the characters are young and have not expressed their sexuality.

Jay demonstrated a slight homophobia before his son, Mitchell, came out. Originally, he was very uncomfortable with the thought of homosexuality, but gradually, as time progressed, he became more comfortable. He was able to overcome his homophobia.

Claire and Phil Dunphy have both an emotional and romantic attraction to one another. They show this in almost every show when one of them always says something sweet or romantic to the other.

When the Dunphy children walk in on thier parents having intercourse, they had to explain to Luke, thier youngest child, what was going on and why.

When Cameron is at the bar with Mitchell, he is dared to ask for a ladies number. Cameron gets a ladies number and eventually ends up hanging out with her. During this time, they also end up kissing. For a moment Cam thinks he might be bisexual.

Because Luke Dunphy is such a young age, he is not yet interested in romance and relationships. So he currently has no attraction to either sex.
